Phentermine or Adipex: What’s the difference?

Chemically, there is no difference between Phentermine or Adipex. The latter name is used by Teva Pharmaceuticals as a brand name for its particular version of the drug, and other manufacturers use other brand names. The only difference between them is Adipex is available in only two versions, both of which use the 37.5mg dose. One version is the time released capsule, which is green and blue, while the other version is the instant release pill which is white colored with blue specks.

There are other versions of this medication available from a wide variety of manufacturers, and they are sold under many different product names including Duromine, Ionamin, and Fastin. There are also a variety of dosages ranging from 15mg to 40mg, and your doctor will specify the correct dose when they write the prescription. The brand that you receive will depend on the dosage specified by your doctor as well as what that particular pharmacy happens to have in their inventory at that particular time. The pharmacy is concerned with the type of tablet (instant or extended release) as well as the dosage rather than with the actual brand name.

Adipex: A Type of Phentermine

The best way to think of these two medications is not in terms of an “Phentermine vs Adipex” list of differences, but rather to think of Phentermine as consisting of a group of medications that share the same composition but differ in terms of ingredients and the manner which it is absorbed. The reason why a wide variety of brand names are available is because this medication has been out of patent for a long time, and thus any manufacturer can produce it. The different brand names are used because they want to set their products apart from each other, but chemically they all have the same active ingredient.

Adipex is Phentermine that is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals using a specific trademark. If you are prescribed the 37.5mg dose in either pill or capsule form you may receive it, but there is also a chance that you will receive another brand of this medication as well. If you are given another dosage then you will receive another brand. For example, if your doctor prescribes you the 15mg instant release dose or the 30mg capsule then you will receive another brand. The brand that you receive will also vary depending on the country where you are located. For example, if you are in Australia and you are prescribed a slow-release resin capsule then you may receive Ionamin, a form which used to be available in the United States but is not available any longer. If you are in Australia you might also receive Metermine, a gradual-release form, or maybe Duromine, which is another timed release form of this drug that is also available in New Zealand and South Africa.

Same Side Effects

The most important thing to remember is that this medication has been out of patent for a long time, and that any manufacturer can produce their own version of it (provided they conform to FDA regulations) and use their own brand name. The differences between brands depend on the dosage and type of tablet that is available, not the chemical composition. There is no brand of Phentermine that can be taken to avoid Adipex side effects because Adipex and Phentermine are chemically the same.
